Many children respond better when they know what sensation to expect before using the device for the first time.
You can explain that:
- It may feel a little funny at first
- They might hear or feel a small “pop” in their ear
- The sensation is similar to what happens during airplane takeoff or landing
Some parents find it helpful to describe the air as helping to “push” or “flush” the fluid out of the ear, which is why the popping sensation can happen.
Most children report that the first few uses feel unusual, but after a short time it begins to feel completely normal.
